The Event

‘Het Woonprotest’ is a national protest organised by a national coalition of action groups and civil society (you can read the manifest here (Dutch) ). They protest against ever-rising rents, growing homelessness, and treating housing as a profit venture instead of a right.

They demand that stopping/preventing homelessness becomes a high priority, that housing is widely available to citizens, lower rents, including tenants in decision-making, an end to temporary housing contracts and flex housing, lower inequality between buying and renting (renters comparatively lose more of their income to housing).

Note: There is a meeting on 8 September at 7:30 PM at Nieuwe Achtergracht 17, 1018 XV Amsterdam (close to metro station Weesperplein), where the upcoming protest will be discussed. Language will likely be in Dutch.
